Leadership Program
Nine Months. Thirty Leaders. Five Sessions.
IGEL takes environmental leaders beyond the conference room to experience first-hand how environmental policies and decisions impact every aspect and geography in Georgia.
Our core experiential program is focused on building and sustaining a diverse network of environmental leaders across our state. We equip leaders with the knowledge, advanced skills, and expansive network to address Georgia’s environmental challenges now and for years to come.
After graduation, new IGELians become a part of a unique and expansive network of environmental leaders, with access to an extensive knowledge base and deep connections in every corner of the state.

Diverse Leaders With a Common Goal
IGELians are a diverse group. From former members of Congress and state legislators to farmers and city planners, the range and variety of experience and expertise is vast. A few unifying traits bond them all together – strong leadership abilities, a passion for problem solving, a knack for collective collaboration, and a willingness to embrace new ideas.
The IGEL leadership program is designed for individuals with a proven leadership record, typically mid- or late-career professionals. The application process is highly competitive, with many applicants applying multiple times before being accepted. And the program is uniquely demanding, with required attendance at all five sessions over a nine-month period. The rigor is intentional – we know that to develop the best leaders in the state, dedication is key.
Our current class has backgrounds in industries ranging from higher education to Fortune 500 companies and everything in between.
